A stretch mark is a type of scar that develops when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear.
Stretch marks are commonly found in pregnancy women and people who are obese. Stretch marks can show up anywhere on the body, but they mainly occur in areas such as the neck, breasts, arms, lower back, abdomen, and thighs.
Thanks to the medical advancements in dermatology that today an array of skin treatments for stretch marks is available at most skin clinics, including Laser Treatment and Platelet-rich Plasma.
1.Laser Treatment or Light Therapy:Laser treatment is an effective way to remove stretch marks on your body. The laser destroys the damaged part of your skin and improves collagen stimulation that’s needed for building new tissue. This considerably decreases the appearance of stretch marks and makes it very difficult for stretch marks to reappear.
2.Platelet-rich Plasma:This therapy also known as PRP in short is a great method to revive skin and increase collagen production. It involves taking the person’s own blood that is rich in plasma and injecting it back into the damaged or blemished skin areas. This can have desired effects on the skin by making it smoother and suppler.
3.Shock Wave Treatment:This is one of the latest techniques used to treat cellulite or stretch marks, relies on the use of sound waves for reducing the scars. The biggest upside of sound wave therapy for stretch marks is it gives maximum comfort to the patient as it uses soft pulse technology.
What to expect
Laser treatment for stretch marks helps reduce the scars. However, please keep in mind that the results are not consistent as they depend on various factors, including the extent to which the stretch marks are caused, skin type of a person and the medical history.
What happens is the Laser penetrates into the skin where stretch marks appear and destroys the damaged skin from the inside to give way for healthier skin.
Under PRP therapy the patient’s own platelet-rich blood is injected into the blemished skin areas that works in reproducing collagen and removing the stretch marks from showing on the body. Some pain is expected to be felt because of the injections but that is only for the time being.
Shock Wave Treatment uses soft pulse technology aimed at giving maximum comfort to the patient while performing the therapy for stretch marks removal.
The laser or lightning therapy for stretch marks removal cannot be done in a single session, typically takes about 6 to 7 sessions over a time period of a couple of months to show positive results.
A PRP treatment can be completed in a few sessions, sometimes even a single session is enough. Two sessions over a span of 5 months is ideal.
As far as Shock Wave Treatment is concerned, it’s amazingly effective for reduction of stretch marks but , this treatment is time-consuming, and it usually yields results in 10 treatments.
Laser treatment is painless, however you might feel some redness on the skin after a couple of sessions. This will subside within a month or so after your final treatment.
Pain due to the injections is expected because of the needles piercing your skin. It might be slightly painful for some and very painful for others. The pain will eventually fully subside after 2 months of the first session.
